Newman looks forward to visiting region for meeting

GLADSTONE is pollie central lately, with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott stopping by last week.

And next month we'll have the State Government's community cabinet meeting.

"I think it's a good opportunity, especially if the community has some contact time with the ministers for them to get a better understanding of the area," Member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham said.

"They obviously don't understand the pressure Gladstone has been under."

The two-day event on August 25 and 26 is the ninth community cabinet held in regional Queensland since the LNP Government was elected last year.

Premier Campbell Newman said he was looking forward to the visit.

"Gladstone, and the entire central Queensland region, is a real powerhouse for our state's economy and a focus for future investment and growth," he said.

Mrs Cunningham said the community shared similar concerns.

"It's the hospital, infrastructure like the Kin Kora roundabout. Out at Calliope it's the retention of the Calliope High School site, and affordable housing."
