Hauritz on the comeback trail

NATHAN Hauritz won't feature in the opening Test match of the summer that starts at the Gabba today.

It's not all doom and gloom for the former Hervey Bay junior cricketer though.

The Australian representative off-spinner is at least back playing the game.

Hauritz made his first-class comeback after a lengthy layoff when he played for New South Wales in the one-day cup match against Western Australia at the SCG yesterday.

The 30-year-old wasted very little time in announcing his return either.

He had a big shout for LBW turned down with his first delivery before taking a wicket in his third over.

He eventually finished with the impressive figures of 2-42 off 13 overs, a spell which also included one maiden.

Hauritz hadn't played for NSW since the Champions League match against Chennai in late September after being sidelined with shoulder and calf injuries.

He said it was simply great to be back playing again.

"It's been frustrating and disappointing because you want to play all the time," he said.

"Saying that, you can't do much about it."

While Hauritz will be in Sydney today, Nathan Lyon should be handling the spin bowling duties for Australia in the first Test against New Zealand in Brisbane,

Hauritz, who has played in 17 Tests, hasn't given up hope of wearing his beloved Baggy Green again though.

"It's always been my dream to play for Australia and it's something I want to do again but I'm not putting pressure on myself to do it," the former Torquay State School student said.

"I just want to be playing cricket at this stage whether it's for my club, NSW or the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash later this month.

"I am happy to focus on that and nothing else."
