Coast choir to host spectacular Christmas gala

IT'S beginning to look a lot like Christmas ... and Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir is excited at having the highly-acclaimed Brisbane Excelsior Band as part of their Joy To The World concert this Sunday afternoon.

The gala event at Lake Kawana Community Centre will be the perfect start to the festive season, Oriana president Melissa Innes said.

"We want everyone to enjoy the sights, sounds and splendour of Christmas at this premier event in the end-of-year concert season.

"It's so exciting to be able to bring an internationally acclaimed band to the Coast to present this amazing event.

"It's something you do not often get to see.'' 

Brisbane Excelsior Band are not only Australia's premier brass band, but are also the highest ranked band outside of Europe - a feat they are extremely proud of.  

The current Queensland and New Zealand championship title holders, Brisbane XCLR will lend their high energy, considerable talents, well-honed skills and terrific showmanship to the event, accompanying the choir and presenting their own selections.  

"We're thrilled to bring a brass band of the calibre of Brisbane Excelsior Band to the Sunshine Coast," said Oriana music director, Sandra Milliken. 

"Bringing two champion ensembles together, this concert is going be to something very special and an event Coast audiences will always remember." 

With on-going support from Sunshine Coast Council and generous contributions from groups such as the Buderim Foundation, it is hoped that Joy to the World will become an annual celebration of everyone's favourite time of year.  

"We'd love to see our Oriana Christmas concert become a feature and tradition of the Coast's festive season calendar into the future," Melissa Innes said. 

"We're very thankful for support we've received from the Sunshine Coast Council's major grants program and for contribution of the Buderim Foundation. With on-going support will we continue to be able to present high quality events such as this to Coast patrons." 

"Joy to the World" is sure to be a highlight of the festive season this year and for years to come.''

The concert, also featuring the Oriana Youth Choir, ensembles and soloists, will showcase beloved and favourite carols, beautiful and moving seasonal songs and the most joyful Christmas music.   

A wonderful celebration of Christmas for the whole family to enjoy, Joy to the World will have you singing along to all your favourites.

The December 3 event to be presented at 2pm at the Lake Kawana Community Centre will be the perfect start to the festive season.
