City Chic to open in Bundy

POPULAR plus-size fashion store City Chic is almost ready to open its doors in Bundaberg due to an expanding customer base right here in the Rum City.

The leading Australian fashion label is aimed at the size 14-plus market with a focus on denim, lingerie, swimwear, occasion wear and accessories.

City Chic Queensland regional manager Lyn Bramham, who is in Bundaberg to help put the finishing touches on the popular business set to open at Sugarland Shoppingtown, said City Chic had a strong and loyal online customer base in Bundaberg.

"In Australia we are opening in two areas - one here in Bundaberg and one in Coffs Harbour," she said.

"Bundaberg was the most sought after area to open a store in.

"We do find we are very successful with stores in places where there is strong online business."

Mrs Bramham said City Chic fell under the Speciality Fashion Group umbrella, which bought the company in 2006 to become one of the leading fashion labels in the country with a presence across the world.

"Speciality Fashion Group grew the City Chic brand from seven stores to 100 stores in that time," she said.

"We have done really well and we have had rapid expansion in New Zealand, South Africa and online.

"We opened in America last year and we are just about to open in Dubai."

Despite the large expansion, Mrs Bramham said the focus was still on a personal experience for shoppers online and in the bricks and mortar stores.

"There will be a staff of five at the Bundaberg store and they are all local girls," she said.

"We had group interviews about a month ago and had more than 300 applicants."

Mrs Bramham was hopeful the store would be open before the weekend but urged customers to contact Sugarland Shoppingtown before trekking down.

Another company enjoying immense success locally is Bargara Brewing Company which recently opened its Brewhouse on Tantitha St.

Co-founder Jack Milbank said he had been overwhelmed with support from the community since it opened its doors last Friday.

"We have been full every day we opened," he said. "We are not a pub. We are not a restaurant. We are unique."

The Brewhouse opens from Wednesday to Sunday.
