In July last year, an Aldi spokesperson confirmed to the NewsMail the chain was looking at revamping the Maryborough St space for a new store.
"There is a strong appetite amongst the Bundaberg community for an alternative place to shop," the spokesperson said last year.
"When establishing a new store, Aldi considers the long-term potential of the area and population numbers.
"We work closely with local planning bodies such as council, other businesses and community groups to ensure our presence will positively impact the area."
The new Aldi store offers 15-20 full-time and part-time positions.
"We take great pride in the quality of our staff and provide a work environment that supports career development and employee satisfaction," the spokesperson said.
Aldi's first Australian store was opened in 2001.
The chain opened its first Bundaberg store on Johnston St, Avoca, near Sugarland, in 2005.
A second store was opened six years later off FE Walker St at Kepnock in 2011.
The Bundaberg Plaza store will be its first Bundaberg store in a pre-existing building and inside a shopping complex.
The German supermarket giant generally prefers building its own stand-alone stores.
