Why Chris Hemsworth was spotted wearing nail polish

HOLLYWOOD leading man and Northern Rivers resident, Chris Hemsworth, is sporting nail polish this week.

He has become a Polished Man.

No, the red nail polish in his index finger is not part of the look of a future film character, but a social campaign the actor has joined.

"I just signed up to the @YGAP @polishedman campaign!," Hemsworth posted on his Instagram account.

"One in five children fall victim to physical and/or sexual violence, before they turn 18. That's one too many. For the month of October, I'll be painting one nail to represent this statistic and raise awareness and funds to end violence against children.

"Sign up today at www.polishedman.com and donate! #polishedman," he posted.

The post has gathered more than 415,000 likes and 1,500 comments in only 20 hours in Instagram.

The campaign

According to its website, YGAP is an International Development not-for-profit with an innovative approach to poverty alleviation.

The site explains the organisation backs local entrepreneurs.

"We back impact entrepreneurs - or as we like to call them 'local leaders' - with solutions to local problems in some of the world's toughest communities," the site reads.

"Rather than imposing our perceived solutions on a foreign community, we support the local leaders who live there and have developed their own."

The Australian organisation has been operating for eight years and has offices in Melbourne.

Nail painting goes from October 1 to 31, so you still have time to chose a color for your husband/boyfriend.
