Childers Men's Shed gets the go-ahead

NOT-FOR-PROFIT organisation Childers Men's Shed can progress its plans to establish a facility in the Childers town area following the approval of its development application.

Planning and Development portfolio spokesman Cr Ross Sommerfeld said the development would be constructed in two stages.

"The first stage will comprise of a 15m by 10m shed and on-site car parking for 10 vehicles, which can be accessed via North St," Cr Sommerfeld said.

"Stage two is a 5m by 10m extension to the eastern end of the building."

Divisional representative Cr Tony Ricciardi said he was thrilled to see the community group moving forward with their plans to establish the Childers Men's Shed.

"This parcel of land, which the Men's Shed Association has been awarded a 10-year lease over, was set aside by the Isis Shire Council for community use," Cr Ricciardi said.

"This property adjoins a larger parcel of land which at the time was identified for future sport and recreation initiatives so it is fortunate we have been able to find a use for the land in keeping with that vision."

As a not-for-profit organisation Cr Sommerfeld said the Childers Men's Shed was eligible for a 100% discount on its infrastructure charges.
