Man 'had sex with 14yo 5 times'
A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with sleeping with a girl 10 years his junior up to five times.
But defence lawyers say the girl has accused him of carnal knowledge because she did not want her father to know she was sexually active.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has not entered a plea for five counts of carnal knowledge with a child under 16, public nuisance, obstructing police and breaching an order.
He applied for bail in Bundaberg Magistrates Court after spending eight months in custody.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Fiona Ward handed-up written submissions detailing why police opposed bail for the man.
Those submissions were not read to the court but she did say the relationship with the girl had been over a "substantial period of time".
Defence lawyer Craig Ryan said the allegations were made after it was found the 14-year-old girl had acquired a sexually transmitted disease.
"My client has told me that he does not have a STD," Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said a STD check was done on his client in March this year but the prosecution was yet to provide the defence with the results of that test.
It was not clear how the pair knew each other but Mr Ryan said his client was only friends with the girl.
Mr Ryan said his client would be able to stay with his mother and that the man would not and "did not want to" speak to witnesses in the case.
Magistrate Jennifer Batts denied bail said she was not satisfied the man would not reoffend and felt he was at risk of failing to appear.
She adjourned the case to December 19.
