Serial paedophile back behind bars after national outrage

KEVIN James Scott, the convicted paedophile who was recently released on parole back into the community of Dorrigo, is back behind bars after appearing in court charged with a breach of the Child Protection Act. 

The 73-year-old who was jailed in 2006 for two years for the indecent assault of a 14-year-old boy in a Coffs Harbour toilet cubicle was arrested by police at the weekend. 

He appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday where he was refused bail. 

On Friday around 7.30pm, Scott reported to the town's police station where he was questioned and later charged with failing to comply with reporting obligations. 

He was refused bail and appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Saturday and this morning is set to reappear in court. 

Since news of his resettlement in a public housing home, the community of Dorrigo has been incensed he has been relocated into their community.

The assault on the 14-year-old boy wasn't Scott's first offence. 

In 2003, he was sentenced to 13-years in jail for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, who he met in a local park. 

He was also accused of indecently assaulting a 10-year-old girl while swimming at a Coffs Harbour beach.   

Scott is due to reappear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday, May 28.

 

EARLIER: A MAN has been charged after an alleged breach of the Child Protection Act.

A 73-year-old man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station on Friday around 7.30pm following a report to local police.

Police said he was questioned and later charged with failing to comply with reporting obligations.

The 73-year-old was refused bail and appeared at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Saturday and will reappear in court this morning.
