Davis to defend Tour Down Under

WHEN the Tour Down Under starts at the end of the month, Allan Davis’s crown will be up for grabs.

But the Bundaberg sprinter is not pressuring himself to repeat his heroics against Lance Armstrong in Adelaide in 2010.

“It’s not something that I focus on that much,” Davis said.

“I want to perform well, hopefully win a stage and make sure I am riding all right.”

Much of the publicity about the event will surround Armstrong’s return to Australia and his battle with Olympic champion Luke Roberts in the six-stage event.

However, just like last year, Davis could prove to be the party pooper in Armstrong’s plans down under.

“It takes a lot of luck to win a tour, so I won’t be putting much pressure on myself to do that,” he said.

“As long as I am putting in good results and showing good form, I’ll be happy.”
