THESE are the chilling photographs which show a crazed stalker shopping for the weapons he would later use to severely injure his doctor lover in revenge for her dumping him.

Paul Lambert's first stop to purchase his "murder kit'' was Bunnings at Port Macquarie, where the 36-year-old bought a utility knife, a hatchet and two rolls of duct tape.

Unknown to Dr Angela Jay, who had a brief relationship with Lambert after the pair met on Tinder, he had booked into Rotary Lodge at the town's hospital where he could keep an eye on her, unable to accept that the obstetrician and gynaecologist had tried to end their six-week relationship, the inquest into his death was told yesterday.

The following day, October 31, 2016, he tried to buy a gun, a taser and capsicum spray from Port Macquarie gun dealer PL Firearms.

Dealer Peter Long told him he needed a licence for each of his chosen weapons so Lambert, who already had 10 AVOs taken out against him by five women he had met on dating sites, settled for a large sheaf knife.

The next day he was seen filling up a five-litre can of petrol at a Caltex service station before returning to Bunnings store for a hammer and crowbar.

Suffering from mental problems for which he had stopped taking medication, he had warned Dr Jay that there was a good Paul and a bad Paul and he "didn't trust the other Paul".

He hid the makeshift arsenal in the boot of his rented Toyota Corolla and on November 3, broke into Dr Jay's Port Macquarie home where he doused the bedroom in petrol and hid in the wardrobe waiting to pounce.

That evening he stabbed Dr Jay 11 times and soaked her in fuel before she escaped to her neighbour's house. Lambert was later shot dead by police on the Pacific Hwy.

Dr Jay told the court yesterday: "After everything that happened I basically felt like a murder victim for a while and I still do sometimes. It's just really weird that I didn't die. I felt like I was supposed to."
