Caterpillars controlled

AFTER an itchy few months at the end of last year, Yandaran residents are almost pest free.

Yandaran resident Karon Carr said the number of the grubs had significantly reduced.

“They are still around but not in the proportions they were before, they are mostly in the scrub now instead of crawling over our houses,” Ms Carr said.

“They all seemed to just disappear around Easter.”

The grubs were a major concern as they were linked to causing pregnancy problems for horses, sometimes causing miscarriages.

“Everyone has calmed down a bit now because we have had a lot of foals born,” she said.

It is unknown if the pests will return.

“They could come back if the conditions are right, but I'm praying that doesn't happen again.”
