Car park near IGA to be closed for improvements

THE council car park adjacent to the IGA on Woongarra Street will be temporarily closed on March 23 and 24 as Bundaberg Regional Council carries out safety and access improvements.

Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesman Tony Ricciardi said the work, being carried out as part of the council's 2013/2014 reseal program, created an opportunity to have the car park improved.

"The current car parking arrangements will be enhanced with the installation of new line marking which will address existing safety issues at the entrance and exit points on Woongarra Street," Cr Ricciardi said.

"The new layout will change these two access points from entry and exit points to entry only at the eastern access and exit only at the western access.

"This will provide a much safer environment given the high volume of motorists and pedestrians in this area."

He said the new layout would make parking bays compliant with Australian Standards and allow for new disable compliant parking bays.

"The purpose of the new layout is to create a one directional flow of traffic with bigger bays that will make maneuvering and entry and exiting easier."

No changes will be made to the Woondooma Street entrance.

The resurfacing and improvement works will be carried out over March 23 and 24 with the car park to reopen on Tuesday, March 25 with minimal disturbance.
