Caffeine fix after mix up
THERE was confusion among Sugarland Donut King customers and staff as a national free coffee campaign went amiss.
Franchises across the country were offering free cups of coffee yesterday as part of the Barista's Shout Day.
But Sugarland Donut King franchisee Joanne Gee said she had notified Retail Food Group Australia, who manages the Donut King franchise, informing them she could not participate in the promotion because of the impact the floods had on her Hinkler store.
"They plan these well out and once we saw that, we knew that we could not possibly do it at this time," she said.
Despite the correspondence, Mrs Gee said she was surprised to find out there had been several advertisements in local media about the free coffee.
"Our manager at Sugarland this morning rang us up telling us it was in the paper," she said.
A Retail Food Group spokeswoman said they were now working with the franchisee towards a resolution but that all stores had to support national campaigns.
"We are currently working on an offer to ensure Bundaberg residents can get a complimentary cup of coffee from Donut King in the near future," she said.
"Had we known about the franchisees concerns with the promotions we would have done more with them to ensure the promotions continued as planned without greater effects on their business."
The spokeswoman said they would review their communications with franchisees to ensure this type of incident did not happen again in the future.
