Letters: Burnett River our best asset
Letters: BILL Moorhead (NM, 3/7) echoes my sentiments.
I have lived in Bundaberg and Bargara for 47 years and have witnessed the great progress the area has experienced.
I was attracted here for two main reasons.
Besides the wonderful weather here I knew that being an irrigation area with guaranteed water supply and assured crops (albeit with low prices sometimes) the city would always have a stabilised base.
This same influence made Griffith, in the Riverina of New South Wales, an exceptionally strong town because it was a part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area where I farmed for 12 years.
We should be grateful for this stability which enables us to endure the occasional downturn.
I am forwarding these reasons because they give Bundaberg and surrounds a sound base to preserve our asset and allow us to grow further as a progressive city.
So I am with Bill. Stop knocking Bundaberg and give sensible consideration to the river plan which could enhance another great asset, the Burnett River.
