Bundy set to rumble with Rocky
A red-hot Bundaberg under-16 side will be one of six representative teams to take on the might of Rockhampton at Kendalls Flat this Sunday.
It is the first time in eight years the two teams have played each other and will battle for the Reg Rowe trophy.
The games, between under-13s, 14s, 15s, 16s and two under-12 teams, were originally scheduled for last season only to be washed out.
Rockhampton agreed to travel to Bundaberg again this year — but they better bring their A-game.
The under-13, 14 and 16 sides have not lost a game this season and are in form ahead of the Wide Bay finals on February 28.
The under-16 team have shone and would be bolstered by the return of paceman David Fulton.
Stress fractures have kept him out of the game until recently, but he has returned to form on the club scene and will fill the shoes of Matt Gavin, who will play in the under-15 side.
The side also included destructive batsman Martyn Bates, Joel Latham and Ibbi Zia, as well as Steven Grogan, who starred in Generations’ seven-a-side win last weekend.
“We should go alright, the guys have been playing well all year,” team manager Geoff Bates said.
“What’s great is that so many of them are getting a game who may not usually, because we have the under-15 team as well.”
“Playing against a different crop of players will also be great for the boys.”
Gavin will team up with Ryan Norton, who also played well last weekend in the seven-a-side carnival.
