Bundy link in crash on Fraser Is.

AT least one backpacker of the seven injured in the horrific Fraser Island fatal crash had travelled from Bundaberg.

One of the Japanese nationals involved in the 4WD roll-over said their address was a Bourbong Street residence.

About 9.40am yesterday the vehicle, carrying eight backpackers believed to be from Japan, rolled on Eastern Beach about 9.5km north of Dundaburra.

AGL Action Rescue Helicopter pilot Dennis Branch said the crew was first on the scene and began to assess the injuries of the vehicle’s occupants.

A 25-year-old man died, while a male passenger and the male driver were airlifted with critical injuries to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Four of the other occupants were airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital and one with minor injuries stayed at the scene to help police with their inquiries.

“There was a large amount of people assisting at the scene,” Mr Branch said.

The tourists were aged in their 20s.
