Local juniors to join world tour

SIX Bundaberg players will have the opportunity to shine overseas next year after being selected in junior Australian futsal teams that will compete in Spain, Malaysia, and Brazil.

Aidan Steffan, Drew Gordan, Sam Fenwick, Marc Stofberg, Nathan Millis and Riley Sears have all been selected for their respective age groups after impressing at the recent nationals.

For Steffan and Gordan, who played in the Under-12s at the championships, they will be competing for Australia in the Under-13s in a tour of Spain in May next year.

In the tour they will face club sides in Catalonia and also visit Camp Nou - the home of Barcelona Football Club.

Aidan's mother, Hayley Steffan, said the family was shocked to find out he had been picked for the tour.

"When we received the email, we had to look at it several times, to make sure it was true," she said.

"Aidan and Drew are excited to represent Australia."

Fellow team-mate in QLD Country, Sam Fenwick, will represent Australia in the Under-12s in Malaysia in June.

The three others selected, Marc Stofberg, Nathan Millis, and Riley Sears, will all travel to Brazil to compete for the Australian Under-15 team.

Stofberg was named in the top five players for his age group at the nationals for the QLD Country Under-14s.

Nathan's mother, Tracey Millis, says the boys can't wait for the trip.

"The tour is one month before the Rio Games, so they are all pumped," she said.

"Five of the boys come from St Luke's Anglican Church the sport is also new here so it is great so see players represent Australia from the region."
