Bundy duo to line up in first trial

LEAGUE: Bundaberg's Coen Hess will have the chance to stake his claim for a starting spot for the North Queensland Cowboys in his first game of the season.

Hess and fellow Bundy player Kyle Laybutt have been named for the Cowboys to take on the West Tigers this Saturday in Cairns.

Laybutt will start on the bench with Hess starting in the second row.

It will be a chance for Hess to focus on getting a starting position and is currently competing against both Ethan Lowe and Gavin Cooper for the spots.

Cowboys coach Paul Green said it would also be a chance for the youngsters, including a couple from the Townsville Blackhawks, to shine.

"Some of the younger guys from up that way have been training really well and deserve their chance to show what they can do,” he told the Townsville Bulletin.

Laybutt will come off the bench and look to impress to add to his two NRL games from last season.

The Cowboys take on the Tigers at 7.30pm at Barlow Park.
