Bundy Brewed Drinks ‘humbled’ by big win

THE team at Bundaberg Brewed Drinks is on "cloud nine" after taking out the top prize at the annual Queensland Export Awards held in Brisbane.

CEO John McLean told the NewsMail yesterday he was humbled and surprised by the win.

"The photographer at the awards came up to me to ask if I wanted to do a photo for the earlier award we won, and I said no, I'd wait as I thought it would be disrespectful of whoever wins the overall award," he said.

Little did he know he was about to win the Premier's Exporter of the Year award.

Mr McLean said the company had a hard time with the floods at the start of the year, and it took some creative work by the engineering team to get the factory working again.

"We had workers whose homes were inundated, ranging from a metre to above their roof.

"We also had suppliers and key partners affected, but it was a really invigorating time for the company."

Mr McLean said the win was wonderful for both the state and Bundaberg and he hoped the region would get some positive attention.

Bundaberg Brewed Drinks has automatically qualified for the 2013 Australian Export Awards, which will be held in Melbourne on November 26.
