Bundy anglers' snapper ban rage

RECREATIONAL fishers in the Bundaberg region have welcomed a state government decision to dump a tax on catching snapper, but they are still angry at the closed season on the fish due to run out at the end of the month.

Fisheries Minister Craig Wallace announced on Tuesday the state government would not go ahead with a proposal to charge recreational fishers a fee for catching snapper.

Mr Wallace said recreational fishers had expressed strong concerns about the proposal and it would not proceed.

He said the excessive focus on this one issue was preventing wider discussion about managing Queensland’s snapper fishery effectively.
