FOR the third year running Fern Messenger has been supporting Australian troops overseas by sending them special care packages through Operation Anzac Cheer.

Mrs Messenger said this year took on even more special significance due to the army's efforts during the city's flood recovery.

"So it is a way of saying thank you for not only protecting our country but also for helping out flood affected families," she said.

Mrs Messenger said everyday items were ideal for the packages including toothpaste and treats such as Vegemite and Tim Tams.

"But no glass items," she said.

Anyone with items to donate should call 0411450705.
