Woman stashes ex's gun at mum's

A BARGARA mother took her ex-husband's rifle and hid it at her mother's house because she was afraid he would harm himself, Bundaberg Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

Sharon Lee Reibel, a registered nurse, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Robyn Shapcott said Reibel's ex-husband had returned to the family home on October 8 and found his gun case broken and his scout rifle missing.

Sgt Shapcott said when interviewed by police, Reibel told them she had taken the gun to her mother's after she had separated from her husband because she was afraid he would use the gun to harm himself.

Defence lawyer Warren Highland said Reibel was a registered nurse for about 20 years and had no previous criminal history.

Magistrate Jennifer Batts placed Reibel on a good behaviour bond for three months.

No conviction was recorded.
