Bundaberg attracts Brisbane foodie
TOP Brisbane restaurateur Javier Codina of award-winning restaurant Moda has his sights set on the Flats Farmers Markets in Bundaberg this Saturday.
Since moving to Australia 16 years ago, Codina has been singing the praises of Bundaberg region produce, in his presentations, cooking demonstrations and restaurant menus, and is looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to the talented farmers themselves in Bundaberg.
"For Moda Restaurant, I hand select my fresh produce from the Rocklea market where I have wonderful and respectful relationships with the wholesalers," he said.
"A majority of the eggplant, capsicum, zucchini, tomatoes, snow peas, blueberries, passionfruit, strawberries and other fresh produce I select comes from the Bundaberg region.
"Likewise, I hand select my fresh seafood much of which is caught in your southern Great Barrier Reef waters.
"I am very excited to be given the opportunity to meet and visit some of Bundaberg's growers, producers, makers and catchers at the Winterfeast farmers market."
As one of the founding partners of classic Brisbane restaurant Gianni's that later became Moda, Codina has established a distinctive, imaginative style in the kitchen and is passionate about creating dishes with the freshest local produce, much like Amanda Hinds of Indulge.
"Amanda and Larry Hinds have cultivated a wonderful direct relationship with their growers of which I am very envious. I applaud them and I am extremely thrilled to be invited to their delicious Sunday Soiree long lunch event," he said.
The Flats Farmers Markets will be held on the cricket grounds at Kendalls Flat this Saturday from 7am-noon and will include more than 50 registered producers.
The Sunday Soiree, a sold out event, will be held in Bourbong St on Sunday and will feature an all-local, seasonal and produce-driven menu to showcase these premium products in a gourmet degustation.
