Bundaberg lady wins story award

BUNDABERG’S Annie Ball has won Best Short Story or Poem on the Fraser Coast in this year’s state-wide Blue Care Writing Awards.

The awards are part of Blue Care’s involvement in Seniors Week, which is about promoting the interests of seniors and celebrating their contribution and achievements.

Mrs Ball, 87, and other entrants were asked to write about the theme My Generation.

Mrs Ball’s account of growing up on family properties at Gin Gin and Morganville struck a chord with judges.

From her residence at Blue Care Millbank Aged Care Facility at Bundaberg, Mrs Ball said she was excited to have won.

“I’ve been writing poems since I was a little girl,” she said.
