Bucasia man dies after two-vehicle crash

UPDATE 11am: Police said the highway has now reopened to traffic.

"In relation to this incident, police will continue to target the highway using high visibility and unmarked police vehicles in an effort to deter any inappropriate traffic related behaviour and keep the roads a safe environment for the community to travel on," Mackay District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Matt Sheridan said.

This is the second fatal crash in the region for 2017, Snr Sgt Sheridan said.

John Anderson, 74, died in a two-vehicle crash on January 3 near the intersection of Shute Harbour and Rifle Range roads at Mount Marlow.

UPDATE: A 40-year-old Bucasia man has died after a motorbike and car crash on the Bruce Hwy.

A police media spokeswoman said the man, who was riding the motorbike, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

She said a 48-year-old woman who was driving the other vehicle was transported to Mackay Base Hospital for shock.

The crash occurred about 6am, the spokeswoman said.

Traffic diversions were in place on the Bruce Hwy after the crash while the Forensic Crash Unit conducts enquiries.

EARLIER: Paramedics and police are on scene of a serous crash involving a motorbike rider.

Queensland Ambulance Service said Bruce Hwy is reportedly closed as a result.

The crash occurred on Campbells Ridge Rd and the Bruce Hwy at Balberra, south of Mackay.
