IT'S havoc on the Bruce Highway, with a truck crash causing major delays for Sunshine Coast commuters.

Just after 6am a truck travelling south careered across the southbound lanes, over the median strip, and across the northbound lanes before crashing down an embankment.

The crash occurred near the Wild Horse Mountain service station in Beerwah.

Police told the Daily that multiple witnesses who stopped to assist saw the truck driver slumped over the wheel.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed that the man appears to have suffered a medical episode, which is believed to have caused the crash.

The man has been taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The left lane of the highway heading north is now blocked, causing significant delays for commuters.

Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route.
