DESPITE all their off-field issues the Western Suburbs produced one of their finest matches as a club.

Demanding a response from coach Nathan Tanner after their poor starts to matches, the team delivered in the best first-half performance of the year.

A double to Josh Garden handed the team a 20-0 lead before the team extended that to 28-4 at half-time.

Despite a late comeback by Past Brothers, and a nervy final five minutes, the Panthers held on for a 32-24 win, one of their best as a club.

Talking to the NewsMail after the contest, Nathan said the win made the last few months of news with the CQ Leagues club disappear quickly.

"Things are starting to fall our way," he said as the players won in his absence.

"Getting the two points is a big bonus for the club."

He also paid tribute to the team who had trained during the week on making a good start.

"I know what side I have and it was good to see them show it," he said.

"We are one of the most experienced teams in the competition and everyone else is talking about everyone else which is fine with us."

Panther's Josh Tanner echoed his coach's comments and said the team had stuck together for a long time.

"We know each other really well and have played together for two, three, and four years," he said.

"Our forwards really stood up with Hayden Priestley and Pongi Ilaiasi playing well."

While disappointed to lose the contest, Brothers paid tribute to their opponents.

"We were blown off the park by Wests in the first half," Brothers coach Mat Templeman conceded.

"They played unbelievable but we also struggled around the ruck."

Templeman added it was pleasing to come back late on and praised youngsters Andrew Nadar and Tyla Hodge.

They will now aim to bounce back against ATW Tigers next week, with Wests facing Isis.
