Lightning strike sparks bushfire next to Bruce Hwy

UPDATE: THE Queensland Fire and Emergency Service as advised a small blaze, sparked by a lightning strike next the Bruce Hwy this afternoon, is out. 

A spokeswoman said the fire was quite small when crews arrived. 

EARLIER: FIRE crews are responding to a bushfire which is believed to have been sparked by a lighting strike in this evening's storms. 

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said authorities wee alerted to the small blaze at 5.23pm this afternoon. 

Crews are presently en route to the Bruce Hwy near Beerwah. 

A video of the fire was posted on Facebook by Talisa Chelo on the Sunshine Coast Traffic reports.

The fire follows on from storms which dropped decent amounts of rain on some parts of the Sunshine Coast while others received just a few millimetres and some lightning. 

At this stage the highway remains open.
