Firefighters contain fire in bushland at Moore Park Beach

UPDATE 5PM: FOUR crews remain on scene at a grass fire burning near Regency Rd and Monarch Avenue, Moore Park Beach, but the blaze has now been contained.

Two urban and three rural fire brigade units attended the scene, where two homes were initially threatened by the blaze.

The flames near the houses were quickly put out.

While the western side of the fire has been fully extinguished, the south remains under monitoring and the east is under control.

It is not yet known how the fire started.    Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire, which broke out about 1.45pm, and a large smoke haze is affecting the area.

Residents are advised to close windows and doors, keep their medication on hand if they suffer from a respiratory illness, and motorists are reminded to slow down and drive to conditions.

Inspector Ron Higgins, of the Bundaberg Fire and Rescue, said reminded people to take care when lighting fires or burning off in these warm, windy conditions.   "Ensure you have a permit for any burn-offs and be aware these school holidays where the children are," he said.
