Accused in strangulation case denied bail

UPDATE: A 21-year-old Brassall man accused of strangulation in a domestic relationship following a violent disturbance at a Redbank Plains address on Thursday has been denied bail.

The man faced Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday charged with 11 offences including two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

A man and woman in their 40s, are believed to have sustained minor injuries during the incident with the woman transported to Ipswich Hospital.

EARLIER: A 21-year-old Brassall man will face court today charged with 11 offences including strangulation in a domestic relationship after a violent disturbance at a Redbank Plains address yesterday.

Police were called to an Aldinga St home at about 11.40am where it will be alleged a couple had been assaulted by way of strangulation.

Their attacker fled the property in a white sedan, driving at high speeds and dangerously.

The vehicle was intercepted at Redbank Plains Rd and Keidges St, Redbank Plains about 1.30pm where he was arrested and taken into custody.

The accused has been denied police bail and remanded in custody to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

He will be charged with three counts of strangulation in a domestic relationship, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of dangerous driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed and disqualified driving, common assault, as well as two counts of contravening a direction.

The couple, a man and woman in their 40s, are believed to have sustained minor injuries with the woman being transported to Ipswich Hospital.
