Boy hurt in hit and run

CHARGES have been laid after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run crash yesterday.

The teen was riding his bike near the intersection of Targo and McConville streets when he was struck about 3.30pm.

“He was knocked into the base of a streetlight,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

“The offending vehicle allegedly left the scene.”

Queensland Fire and Rescue Bundaberg station officer Andrew McCracken said fire crews helped paramedics load the boy into an ambulance.

He suffered cuts and bruises, but his injuries were not serious and he was released from Bundaberg Hospital yesterday evening.

McConville Street resident Ferral Kharma said he heard the ambulance and came over to investigate.

“My friend and I nearly got hit at exactly the same spot, four days ago,” Mr Kharma said.

A 21-year-old Bundaberg man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failing to give way and disqualified driving.

The man will face Bundaberg Magistrates Court at a later date.
