Boxing Day is best at the beach

THERE was barely a spare patch of sand at the region's beaches yesterday as festive revellers made the most of bright sunny weather.

Some came to enjoy a meal of fish and chips on the beach, others to escape the rising barometer with a quick dip, and some to take advantage of good surfing conditions.

Bundaberg couple Kevin Sutton and Veronica Nichols enjoyed lunch together on a picnic table overlooking Nielson Park Beach.

"We thought we'd come down and enjoy each other's company and soak up some of this good sea air together," Mr Sutton said.

"It's a beautiful day and we don't find the time to make it down here as often as we'd like to."

Katrina Grace and her son Liam and daughter Lauren made the trip from Boyne Island to Bundaberg for the Christmas holidays.

Mrs Grace said the trio had enjoyed soaking up some sunshine after recent overcast conditions.

"We've had an amazing time here," Mrs Grace said.

"The weather has been beautiful and there has been some great surf."

David and Rayna Foster stopped off in Bargara for Christmas after a 12-month caravan journey around the country.

The couple are originally from New Zealand and said the Bundaberg region had presented some of the nicest scenery they had encountered in Australia.

"This is a beautiful spot right here," Mrs Foster said.

"I think we'll wander around for a while and have a look at it all."

Ian Morrison made the trip to Bundaberg from the Brisbane suburb of Strathpine to visit family.

"The weather is absolutely glorious at the moment," he said.

"They've really turned it on for us today."
