Boxers ready to Master rivals

TWO Bundaberg boxers will be fighting for a good cause in Caloundra this weekend.

Steven Sindel and Len Shaxson will compete in multiple fights in a masters competition against some of the best in the state.

There will be no prizes for the winners. Instead the meet called Olden Gloves will raise funds for charity.

"I think it is going to be really fun,” Sindel said.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting new people.

"I'll just box and try all my moves that I've practise this year.”

Shaxson said the bouts would be a great way to see if he had improved after recent sessions.

"I'm not getting as exhausted as much as I used to,” he said.

"There's a lot more power in my jabs so hopefully it all comes together this weekend.”

Shaxson said he got back into the sport with son Josh competing as well at national and state level.

"I just wanted my fitness to be a lot better than what it was so I can do a lot more things with my son,” Shaxson said.

"At home we train a bit but we don't spar with each other because we'd get into a lot of trouble if I hurt him or he hurt me.”

Shaxson and Sindel will fight later tomorrow and on Sunday.
