Bohemian fashion then back to Bluesfest basics

BLUESFEST fashion is usually all about colourful gumboots, bright umbrellas and practical ponchos.

But this year's unusually warm, dry and humid weather during the first half of the festival brought with it an opportunity for festival fashionistas to showcase their best bohemian, 70s-inspired, gypsy and cowgirl outfits.

This year was choc-full of floral, light-weight dresses and skirts, both long and short.

Leather ankle-heigh boots replaced the more traditional gumboot and umbrellas were replaced with black, grey and red felt hats.

Round rock-star sunglasses, waist-high denim shorts and crop tops are always a festival staple and this year was no different.

Byron-based fashion businesses Spell, which has gained worldwide notoriety thanks to endorsements from Elsa Pataky and Miley Cyrus, even launched a festival-specific line of clothes.

Sam Alexander, who was working at the Spell Bluesfest stall, said festivals were about dressing up being whoever you want to be.

"We're going for longer dresses," she said.

"Short at the front, long at the back and some frills are nice as well, dolled up with some cowgirl boots.

"Our style's bit of everything. It's kind of city-girl who wants to be in the country.

"It's about swapping it around and being whoever you want to be."

On Saturday night, torrential rain brought with a change of fashion pace, and it was back to Bluesfest basics with gumboots, raincoats and umbrellas.
