Body in river was a local

FAMILY members identified the body of a 50-year-old Bundaberg man on Wednesday night after he drowned in the Burnett River earlier that day.

His identity is yet to be released, but Bundaberg police Inspector Kevin Guteridge confirmed he did have family in the area.

The man drowned shortly after 1pm on Wednesday, after wading into the river for an afternoon swim.

The man was fully clothed and wearing shoes at the time, and was retrieved from the water by two unknown passers-by.

A post-mortem will be conducted to examine the cause of death, although Insp Guteridge said drowning was the likely cause.
