Body found on river in Gold Coast hinterland

A DECOMPOSING body has been found on the banks of a river at Pimpama in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Police say the death is suspicious and have not ruled out homicide.

Around 5:30pm on Thursday police said they responded to reports the body had been located on the banks of the Pimpama River, near Kerkin Road North at Pimpama.

"Officers attended and located the body, which appears to have been there for a number of days.

"A crime scene has been declared and forensic officers remain at the scene."

Police have not said yet whether it was a man or a woman.

The body was reportedly located by fishermen in the area.

"Investigations are continuing.
