Blaze causes power shortages

MORE than 13,000 Bundaberg homes lost power after an electricity substation fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at the Bundaberg west substation about 4.30am.

A Department of Safety spokesman told AAP the cause of the fire is not yet known.

It is understood most homes had their power restored by about 8am.
