Black Caps all out

THE Black Caps reached a competitive 295 all out with Chris Martin the final wicket to fall in the first innings at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The 158 run partnership between Daniel Vettori and Dean Brownlie saved the Black Caps from an embarrassing scoreline after languishing at 96/5 after lunch yesterday.

The duo played patiently to starve off the Australian bowling attack who went for the kill with the lower order in sight.

However the pair ended the first day as nightwatchmen and began the second day in good nick with Vettori posting his 50 in the second over of the day and Brownlie following his partner to the mark shortly after.

The former skipper went agonisingly close to scoring his first test century against Australia falling short at 96 and Brownlie ended the day at 77 not out.

Reece Young (2runs) and Doug Bracewell (duck) were dismissed in quick succession.

Tim Southee added a quick-fire 17 off 12 balls and Martin scored a solitary run before he was cleanly bowled by Nathan Lyon for fourth wicket.
