Bignell says Seagulls will stay

WIDE Bay regional rugby league co-ordinator John Bignell said the decision to allow the Hervey Bay Seagulls re-entry into the Bundaberg Rugby League (BRL) will stick.

Bignell said while BRL and its Fraser Coast counterpart had the right to launch another appeal to Queensland Rugby League within seven days, he said last Friday’s decision was a fair outcome for both parties and no further administrative action would be required.

“Everyone is content with the outcome and hopefully now the juniors can concentrate on their pre-season Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell Cup campaigns,” he said.

The Wide Bay league official said the fact the Fraser Coast set-up did not include a current reserve-grade competition was enough to allow the Seagulls to return.

“If they do eventually introduce a reserve grade in Fraser Coast then we would be inclined to make all teams from the region play in their region, but until then this is the best option,” he said.
