Bears waiting on coach appointment

WHILE the Bundaberg Radiology Bulls are in full swing, the women’s team, the Bears, are still yet to appoint a coach.

The Bears had an enterprising season last year that was only derailed through injury to star import Steph Gandy.

They will be hoping to once again have a crack at qualifying for finals, but as yet things have not got off the ground.

“There is no official coach yet, but I know they’re looking at getting in a player-coach import,” Bundaberg Basketball president Mat Fleming said.

“But nothing has come from that yet.”

The core of the team has been together for many seasons and has always shown potential to go all the way.

“They’re a tight bunch and are very determined to make finals and lift the profile of women’s basketball in town,” Fleming said.

Meanwhile, the local competition kicks off on February 2 for women and the following day for men.

Anyone interested in playing should turn up to Century 21 Stadium, Flint Street, ready to play.
