Barnes re-elected on tourism board

BUNDABERG North Burnett Tourism chairman Greg Barnes was re-elected to serve another term at the body’s annual general meeting this week.

Mr Barnes told the meeting the 2009/10 financial year had been a difficult one for everybody in the tourism industry with the effects of the global financial crisis.

However, the board and the industry as a whole were able to maintain strong visitor numbers to the region and, when compared to many other regional centres, Bundaberg and the North Burnett have weathered the storm comparatively well.

“This goal was achieved by securing the services of James Corvan into what became the general manager’s position,” Mr Barnes said.

Members elected to the board were deputy chairman Ian Rowan of the Bundaberg YMCA, while Mr Corvan has taken on the role of company secretary.

Other board directors are Cr Peter Huth (North Burnett Regional Council), David De Bruin (Qantaslink), Loni Hammond (Kellys Beach Resort), Ron Dodds (Mystery Craters) and Jason Pascoe (Port of Bundaberg).
