Ball is rolling for ability

PREPARATIONS are under way for the fourth Ability Ball which is looking to be bigger than previous years.

Community Lifestyle Support founded the annual event and has seen it grow with popularity each year.

General client manager and event organiser Trevor Sands said the ball was an opportunity for the community to come together for a night of dancing and entertainment.

"It will be a night for the whole community," he said.

"Disability won't be focused on. It's about abilities not disabilities."

Mr Sands said there was need for the ball in Bundaberg and has now seen it expand into the Fraser Coast.

"We had to move to the Civic Centre as the previous venue wasn't big enough," he said.

"We have seen it grow so fast and big.

"And in December we will hold on first Ability Ball at Hervey Bay because there is a need for it there also."

He said this year's ball will have a special guest who was chosen by the clients at Community Lifestyle Support.

"We have a lot of Home and Away fans. So I wrote an email requesting if a cast member would be interested in coming along," he said.

And for the ABBA fans out there there will be a tribute band performing on the night.

The funds raised at the event each year go back into programs and purchase equipment for people with disabilities in Bundaberg.

"This year we will use the money raised to employ people with disabilities to put things like this ball in place in the future," Mr Sands said.

"It all goes back to support the people with disabilities and their families."

Mr Sands said with four months to go until the event they are in need of more sponsors.

"If there are any businesses that can assist with sponsoring the event we would appreciate it," he said.
