Baldwin Swamp Field Day is on Saturday
BALDWIN Swamp Environmental Park will come alive with community members taking part in the rainforest identification field day on Saturday .
Three Australian botanists, Gwen Harden, Dr Bill McDonald, and Glenn Leiper, will lead the identification day which gives residents the chance to learn how to identify native rainforest plants.
Bundaberg Landcare president Michael Johnson said the day would be full of opportunity for those interested in learning from some of the best in the field of botany.
"It's a fantastic chance for the community to learn from some of Queenslands top botanist," Mr Johnson said.
"Generally there is nothing like this going around - we will get to learn from experts."
Council environment and natural resources spokesman Danny Rowleson said the field day, provided by the council in cooperation with the Burnett Mary Regional Group, was open to anyone from volunteers, landholders, naturalists and consultants to people who just love the bush.
"Within our region we have hundreds of rainforest plants and identifying them all can be a challenge," Cr Rowleson said.
"Rainforest is one of the most interesting but threatened vegetation types around, so we hope that spreading awareness about our native rainforest vegetation will go some way towards helping to preserve them."
Mr Johnson said he hopes for fine weather so the event isn't dampened.
"You just don't get this opportunity everyday so well worth it to go along and learn."
