Man charged with baby murder

A 29-year-old Gracemere man has been charged with the murder of an eight-week-old male child.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Elliot said the child was found dead at a home in Gracemere on Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the address by the Queensland Ambulance Service at 8.40am.

Detective Senior Sergeant Elliot said the man had been arrested at 12.30 this morning after he was interviewed by officers from the Child Protection Investigation Unit late last night.

The accused appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 12.

The mother of the child had also been interviewed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Elliot said an autopsy had been performed but he could not disclose the child’s injuries.

Police are currently at the house conducting a forensic examination.

No other charges have been laid against other people and investigations were continuing.
