'Awesome' car for Barbera's Super 2 Series quest

MOTORSPORT: Bundaberg's Mason Barbera is impressed by the new set of wheels he is about to race in.

The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver's car for this year's Dunlop Super 2 Series was revealed yesterday by the team.

Barbera will race again for GRM after making his debut in the category last year.

"I reckon it is awesome,” Barbera said of the new car.

"In real life it is unbelievable and there is a silver chrome on it that really sets it off.”

Barbera will get his hands on the car today, with the 20-year-old to hold a test day at Winton in Victoria.

He hasn't been in the car in over three months since the last round of the series in Newcastle.

"I've been busy with the watermelons and the business,” he said.

"Sometimes I need to be able to work so I can then concentrate on the season.”

But Barbera has been training hard away from the car, making sure he is ready.

He has been involved in an intense training camp at Improvement Gym for the past month and a half.

The Holden driver said he had lost 15kg in just over three months.

"It's been full-on,” he said.

"The loss of weight will help the team set up the car better.”

Barbera will use the same car that Garth Tander drove in last year's Supercars championship.

"I'm excited to get back in the car,” he said.

"I'm not as nervous as last year and a lot more confident in the car.

"This is our only test session prior to Clipsal so we'll do a race run of 25 to 30 laps to get comfortable.”

Barbera's first round of the year will be in Adelaide from March 1-4.
