Australia lags on revenge porn laws

AUSTRALIA should introduce stronger laws to deal with revenge pornography crime on the internet, a senior academic says.

La Trobe University legal studies senior lecturer Dr Nicola Henry told the ABC there were other countries where specific revenge pornography legislation had been brought in.

"For example, in the Philippines I think it's an offence of up to seven years (jail) in terms of distributing images without consent of the subject," she said.

The issue came to prominence this week after intimate photos of hundreds of South Australian women were uploaded to the internet.
