ACROSS the Waves fired the first salvo of the 2015 season against rivals Brothers 1 with a three-wicket win.

With the Bundaberg Division 1/2 Twenty20 comp taking a breather for a few weeks, players had to shift gears to the 40-over format.

And with a Salter Oval wicket that was conducive to movement, ATW was sent to bat first and managed 7-176 thanks to half centuries from Matt Fulton and stand-in skipper Sean Stuchbery.

It was a shaky start to ATW's innings with both Jayden Larsen and David Mulhall falling cheaply.

Fulton steadied the innings with a well-constructed 57 off 85 deliveries which wasn't without luck.

"He gave a chance early when he was on single digits," Stuchbery said.

"After that, he went back to hitting the ball hard and that allowed him to free up and relax.

"He hasn't had any luck so far this year so it was great to watch."

Stuchbery was in good touch scoring freely with 50 off 36 balls.

"My job was to get out there and make runs quickly

"With David Boge and Matt Turich bowling at me it was nice to hit a few over the fence."

Turich was the most economical of Brothers bowlers finishing with two wickets and only going for 19 runs.

Brothers got off to an awful start in its run chase losing its top three wickets for only four runs.

Boge scored 65 runs but unfortunately was unable to find an ally with Brothers finishing on 132.

Mitch Waters, Rodney Thurston and Mulhall were the pick of the bowlers for ATW with Thurston receiving high praise from Stuchbery for a peach of a delivery against the dangerous Turich.

"We knew we needed three big wickets - Turich, Boge and Jarrod Laycock," Stuchbery said.

"Rodney Thurston bowled really well.

"He bowled Matt Turich with one of the best balls I've seen."
