Assault-accused cop to face Toowoomba court

AN OFFICER accused of assaulting a prisoner in police custody will face court on assault charges in March.

The senior constable, 39, has been stood down from official duty with the service after being served a notice to appear in court in Toowoomba on March 1.

He was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

"In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct or criminal charges," QPS said in a statement.

"This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated."
