Arrows beat All Blacks to claim women's title

HOCKEY: Arrows did not let the opportunity to win slip in a grand final this time.

The side defeated All Blacks 3-1 to win the women's division 1 title for the third time in the past four years after losing the grand final last year in extra time.

Arrows raced to a 3-0 lead before a goal from All Blacks right from the end set up a tense final few minutes.

"It was a bit nervy at the end," Arrows coach Paul Green said.

"The girls played really well and held on in the end."

Green said the win was set up by the side's possession.

"The team controlled the ball really well," he said.

"We didn't change too much from two weeks ago against All Blacks and it was a good all round performance."

Arrows player Susan Kendall was named player of the match.

"She had a great game, held the ball well," Green said.

"I'm proud of all the girls, we won most of our last games to win the final."

All Blacks president Des Barritt said his side didn't take their chances which cost them in the end.
